Euro 2020 and Copa América: Current form and balanced team above big names and talent
For many years now I have been more drawn towards club football over international matches. First of all because the sport at club level is simply much better. The teams are much better prepared tactically and the players know each other and over time establish a team identity, something which very few national teams have been able to achieve recently as most of them are subject to constant rotation and have very little time to work on tactics. Second of all, I have developed a strong distaste for the chauvinism, racism and nationalism that international games inevitably generate. In my childhood and my teenage years my complete lack of political awareness made me watch the matches without any prejudice. Quite innocently I focused on the only thing that should matter in football: the goals, the skills and the emotions of the winners and the losers.
