Finally after two days in India I have found some time to write a note about my travel, arrival and first days here. Nothing extraordinary happened but there are always experiences and topics worth mentioning for a variety of reasons, like the anecdote about my confusing identity with which I will begin. The "new normality" is especially depressing when you watch matches played in empty stadiums, with chants and cheers played from the ground speakers. Mural of my neighbourhood's CDR Dear friends and family! I'm writing this to tell you how things stand here in Catalonia these days. I know that your media don't always tell you the truth, so, if you have ten minutes, I encourage you to read what we have lived here recently. This Tuesday, the 10th of April, the Spanish police and the Civil Guard arrested an activist from one of the so-called Committees for the Defence of the Republic (CDR). These civil committees were constituted all over Catalonia in order to defend the Catalan Republic, declared on the 27th of October last year. Even if you don't support the secessionist cause, what is clear is that the CDRs have ALWAYS demonstrated peacefully and avoided violence, only offering peaceful resistance when blocking main roads or removing tollgates at toll points on motorways. This is quite clearly a case of civil disobedience, however the Spanish state, which controls the courts, will accuse the CDRs of terrorism ...

Transparent na manifestacji 20-ego września. Katalonia jest oburzona i urażona. Przez ostatnie miesiące napięcie między autonomią a centralnym rządem w Madrycie urosło do takiego poziomu, że rząd centralny w zeszłym tygodniu nasłał Straż Obywatelską (Guardia Civil) na katalońskie urzędy. Aresztowano czternastu polityków, wezwano prawie 700 burmistrzów do złożenia zeznań w sądzie, oraz zarekwirowano prawie dziesięć milionów kart do głosowania. Referendum, którego domaga się ponad dwa miliony osób jest nie demokratyczne, natomiast ściganie przeciwników politycznych policją i ganianie ich po sądach jest obroną demokracji… Logiczne, prawda? W ramach wstępu chciałbym wyjaśnić skąd wziął się obecny kryzys i w jaki sposób secesjonizm w Katalonii urósł w siłę do tego stopnia, żeby stawić czoła centralnemu rządowi w Madrycie. Niestety przez ostatnie lata przeczytałem wiele kłamstw, manipulacji i błędnych interpretacji, również w polskiej prasie, która podchodzi do tego tematu z perspek...

Ratusz dzielnicy Gràcia z czarną wstęgą na znak żałoby Minęły już ponad trzy tygodnie od jednego z najczarniejszych dni w niedawnej historii Barcelony, w którym to piętnaście osób zginęło staranowanych przez furgonetkę prowadzoną przez terrorystę. Od tego czasu życie w mieście toczy się swoim normalnym biegiem, a twarze mieszkańców nie zdradzają nerwowości lub zmartwienia. Z kolei w mediach toczy się gorąca debata na temat zagrożenia terroryzmem, która dała podstawy do konfliktów na tle politycznym. Oficjalnie politycy deklarowali zjednoczenie w obliczu terroryzmu, oraz solidarność wobec ofiar, lecz w mediach od kilku tygodni padają liczne oskarżenia jednych wobec drugich. Obojętna wobec zamachu nie pozostała również społeczność muzułmańska i niestety również nieliczna lecz krzykliwa skrajna prawica. Po niedzielnych wyborach plebiscytarnych w Katalonii otrzymałem sporo pytań od znajomych oraz czytałem przeróżne interpretacje wyników, wiele z nich dość jednostronnie przedstawionych. Poniżej postaram się pokrótce wyjaśnić kto zwyciężył, kto poniósł klęskę i jak interpretują rezultaty poszczególne ugrupowania. Aby mieć lepsze rozeznanie w temacie kandydatur, jakie wzięły udział w wybobrach, zapraszam do przeczytania mojego poprzedniego posta . Rekordowa frekwencja W tym roku zarejestrowano zdecydowanie najlepszą frekwencję w wyborach autonomicznych w historii post-frankistowskiej Katalonii: 77,44 % osób uprawnionych do głosowania skorzystała z tego prawa, w porównaniu do 67,76 % w 2012 i 58,78 % w 2010. Charakter plebiscytu jaki nadano wyborom zmotywował elektorat i nikt nie chciał przegapić tej szansy na zdecydowanie o przyszłości wspólnoty. Już dzisiaj, 27-ego września, mają miejsce historyczne wybory w Katalonii. Ponieważ rząd Hiszpanii nie pozwala katalońskiej wspólnocie autonomicznej na oficjalne referendum w sprawie niepodległości, lokalny parlament ogłosił wybory.
